Very familiar to Charlottesville audiences, Stephanie Nakasian is an exciting, well-seasoned vocalist and master of innovative jazz improvisation, completely authentic with a fresh and vibrant sound all her own. She still lives in Central Virginia when she is not touring the country. A prolific recording artist with 15 celebrated albums, including her acclaimed tribute to Billie Holiday, “Billie Remembered,” which was featured on NPR’s Fresh Air. Stephanie continues to perform live and is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of artists through her writings, teaching, speaking appearances and and improv workshops.  

This rare local appearance will touch on many aspects of Stephanie’s extensive repertoire, from the classic Black jazz singers of the past, through more contemporary R & B, pop and blues. Listen for the greats from Bessie Smith and Alberta Hunter, to Ella, Billie and Dinah, and onward to Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick.

Pianist Lucy Kilpatrick will add her distinctive, soulful sound both instrumentally and vocally. Bassist Karl Kimmel, who led band at The Homestead Resort for over 30 years, completes the trio for this date.
